China congratulates PNG on ties

President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping has exchanged congratulatory messages with PNG Governor General, Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio, on the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Chinese media organisation, Xinhua, reports that in his message, President Jingping said remarkable progress has been witnessed since both countries established diplomatic ties in 1975.

Peter O’Neill travelled to China early this year and met with President Jingping, where they both reiterated the need to consolidate and develop their strategic partnership based on mutual respect and joint development.

President Jingping voiced China’s willingness to work with PNG to strengthen cooperation’s in various fields, lift bilateral ties to a higher level and bring more benefits to the two countries and people.

In response, Ogoi said PNG’s socio-economic development has been supported by China since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Ogio expects further advancement in the development of bilateral relations in the coming 40 years.
