Businessman believes in small business opportunities

A local Usino-Bundi businessman in tourism, hospitality and guesthouse/hotel services wants to see more people from Usino-Bundi electorate in Madang province enter into small scale businesses opportunities to sustain themselves and prosper in live.

Edward Magarua Kiza, a former public servant and now a successful businessman in Madang, says the only way for his Usino-Bundi people to get out of poverty and unnecessary traditional obligations and participate in economic changes is to learn and understand the standard business principles.

He said this during the launching of the Wekumara Poultry Project workshop on January 31, at Uria Village in the Ward 19 area of Usino LLG.

When donating food items worth K500 towards the workshop, Edward told the people that agriculture business has great potential in generating sustainable income as long as it is conducted on a large scale with an established market.

“I thank Ramu NiCo to facilitate the workshop and personally commit my support with K500 worth of food items to get you through and make positive changes in our communities,” Kiza said.

Kiza said Madang is experiencing an influx of foreign investors including Marengo Mine, Kurumbukari Mine, Ramu Agri in his Usino-Bundi electorate and urged locals to explore agriculture business opportunities and participate in the economic growth of the province then being mere spectators.

“I want to see many people enter into business activities and we must make sure we participate in the economic activities taking place,” he said.

Kiza who is also the principal landowner of Marengo Mine and Ramu NiCo operated Kurumbukari Mine said there are huge impacted Projects in the electorate and responsible government agencies, business houses, local leaders and elites in the province must make sure the local people participate in businesses available.

“We do not have many Usino-Bundi-Gama people in government and business circles that can make things happen in Usino-Bundi electorate,”

“I want to see many people enter into business, reach higher education and bring in positive developments into our electorate. We cannot remain spectators,” Kiza said.

Jimmy Uguro, the Executive Officer of Madang Provincial Government who was also invited challenged the local people to change their attitudes and embrace positive change happening in the province.

The one week workshop started on Monday Feb 1 is a partnership program between Wekumara Poultry Project, Provincial Government through DAL and Ramu NiCo covering topics including poultry production, investment sustainability and farm enterprises management.
