Barras move into fourth position after win

With an outright victory on day four, the Hebou PNG Barramundis have moved into fourth position on 40 points after four rounds of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Intercontinental Cup (ICUP).

Captain of the Barras, Assad Vala said it was a hard fought victory for his side.

“It was a very hard day on the first day for us, and it was great that we managed to score 311 to give something for our bowlers to bowl at.

“It was an unbelievable effort by our bowlers to bowl out a quality batting line up in Namibia for only 146 runs. Norman Vanua led from the front and bowled very well and Lega Siaka was more than handy with his leg spinners.

“I was very happy to get a hundred. I didn’t think much of getting a hundred, but was looking at scoring as much runs for the team. We are all very happy with our performance,” said Vala.

Vala remains the second leading runs scorer in the ICUP with 559 runs. Vala scored a 150 runs in the ICUP match against Namibia.

He trails behind leading run scorer Ed Joyce from Ireland.

The current ICUP points ladder:

Ireland (80), Afghanistan (61), Netherlands (46), PNG (40), Hong Kong (30), Scotland (30), Namibia (20), United Arab Emirates (7).

The remaining ICUP matches for the Barras are against the United Arab Emirates, Scotland and Hong Kong.
