Barras couldn’t put together good partnerships

Captain of the Hebou PNG Barramundis, Assad Vala says his side couldn’t put together good partnerships which lost them the match yesterday.

The Barramundis lost their first match in their campaign in the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) Premier League losing by 86 runs to the Western Grit.

Vala said his side started well after winning the toss and electing to field first.

He said the new opening bowling pair of young Nosiana Pokana and Pipi Raho took one wicket each in the power play conceding about 40 odd runs against a good quality batting line up.

“They were well supported by the quick duo of Norman and Willie who both bowled with a lot pace and control.

“We just didn't back up them and apply the same pressure and let them get away and post good total after their 50 overs.

“In our batting we just didn't bat well and couldn't put together a good partnership and lost wickets at regular intervals which did not help our cause,”

“Too many soft dismissals did not help us putting together good partnership to put them under pressure,” said Vala.

The Barras next SACA match is against Eastern Edge this Sunday.
