Republic of Korea shows support

Support from the international community continues to earthquake stricken provinces of Southern Highlands, Hela and Western.

Four months have lapsed since the devastating February 26th earthquake.

Republic of Korea on Friday joined others who showed their support to those affected communities.

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kymgu Kang, presented food items, including water purification tablets, to the Emergency Disaster Restoration Team’s Emergency Controller, Dr Bill Hamblin. Also at hand was the Southern Highlands Deputy Provincial Administrator - Economic and Social Services, Fiebik (Fi-Bik) Simon.

Simon, on behalf of the people, thanked the Republic of Korea for the timely donations.

Warehouses that stored the disaster relief supplies in Mendi were looted after the June 14th rampage.

The supplies will be sent to the Southern Highlands to “replace some of those that were vandalized and stolen by people who have nothing to do than create trouble in this country”, says Dr Hamblin.

Dr Hamblin thanked all development partners and countries in the region who supported the Emergency Disaster Restoration Team.
