Republic of Korea gives support to PNG

​The Government of the Republic of Korea has announced to provide US$ 200,000 worth of humanitarian assistance to aid those affected from the damages of the recent earthquakes in the Southern Highlands region.

After the earthquakes, around 42,500 people lost their homes and 270,000 people, including 125,000 children, from 4 disaster-affected regions, suffering from lack of clean water and food, are in need of an immediate relief.

The embassy says that the efforts are in line with bilateral support for the country.

First Secretary to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Kim Hyung-ju outlined the efforts in place to support PNG, given the close bilateral relations between the two countries.

In light of the recent impacts on the people, Kim outlined the effort by his nation to ensure that the communities impacted were catered for with efforts in place to ensure that the supplies reached the communities impacted by the disaster.

The 200,000 USD from the Government of the Republic of Korea, will be channeled through the Korean Embassy in Port Moresby who will assist in term of providing relief packages.

The packages will consist of water purification tablets, rain water tanks, and food (canned fish and rice).

Meanwhile, this assistance is expected to contribute to stabilizing the victims’ daily lives and reconstructing the affected areas.
