Total considers earthquake in plans

Total E&P (PNG) Limited Managing Director, Philippe Blanchard, says the company has taken into consideration the recent earthquake and potential earthquakes as it finalises designs for the Papua LNG Facility in Gulf Province.

Blanchard said the company is expected to complete by September its Geo-physical and geo-technical reports of its potential LNG Facility in PRL 15.

He said this reports have taken into consideration the physical structure of the area and the potential for earthquake following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake last month.

Total is currently carrying out negotiations on two options for Papua LNG.

They include optimising the condensate export scheme, to take advantage of the existing facilities; or share facilities with the PNG LNG plant to locate additional liquefaction trains.

He said they are also working to conclude contractual agreements of the Project.

Meanwhile, Blanchard said the gas resource at Elk/Antelope is different to other gas resources in PNG as it contains Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2).

He said the challenge now was not getting rid of it but what to do with it. The composition of gas also plays a role in one of the options considered for the Project.

Total E&P (PNG) aims to make the Papua LNG Project cost efficient and competitive.
