Summit to show world energy protential

The Inaugural Petroleum and Energy Summit will be used to give prominence to the energy sector in PNG.

Chairman of the Summit Organising Committee, Peter Koim, says while other conferences have focused on other resources sectors such as mining and petroleum, the immense potential of energy still remains untapped.

Koim also says it was only fitting after two years of exporting LNG Gas.

“One of our key objectives is to give prominence to the energy sector by bringing this summit to Papua New Guinea. So we separate mining and have the hydro carbon sector including the energy sector be given prominence to our energy investors in the country as well as the energy buyers in the Asia-Pacific Region,” he said.

Other objectives of the summit include:

  • Focus on the contribution that PNG makes towards the development and use of clean energy (LNG, Clean Energy) locally and internationally.
  • Harness opportunities to promote and market PNG’s hydrocarbon resource base.
  • Expose the medium and long term opportunities for PNG to become a major LNG Producer in the region.
  • Provide access to key international players into the dynamic energy potential of PNG.
  • Provide links between resource owners and Papua New Guinea, to potential investors and energy technology providers.

Koim also announced the attendance of Hiroki Sato, Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Fuel Transactions Officerof  JERA Co. Inc. which is the worlds largest LNG buyer.

Jera Co.Inc. is the main buyer of 60 per cent of the worlds LNG exports.

The summit will be held from February 28 to March 2 and will include the summit, exhibitions and networking events, as well as a site visit to the PNG LNG Project site.

500 delegates are expected to attend with around 250 already confirming their attendance.

Preparations are well underway with CWC Group who are the worlds renowned events and training producer for the oil, gas and infrastructure industries.
