PJV renovates Public Service houses

Public Service houses in Porgera, Enga Province, are being given a facelift by the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV).

Under the Tax Credit Scheme, PJV is undertaking a public service housing maintenance program and renovating public service homes.

So far PJV has completed five of nine houses earmarked under the program, three of which were recently renovated.

Community Health Officer, Naomi Parakis, District Health Inspector, Robert Ame and Acting Deputy District Mining Coordinator, Daniel Aremo, of the Porgera District Administration are the latest recipients and received the keys to their new look houses last December.

Acting Porgera District Administrator, George Poio, who was on hand to witness the brief key handover ceremony thanked PJV for the renovation program.

“PJV, thank you for focusing on district infrastructure…my desire is for district public servants to look after the houses so that those implementing these projects will be convinced to continue to also maintain other houses”.

Local contractors Robert Romas Contractors renovated the L40 two-unit duplex at Porgera station while Alupai Paiela Investments Limited renovated a H65 type house at Paiam town.

PJV TCS Superintendent, Derick Kundi, said contractors provided labour while PJV supplied the materials for the 16- week renovation work.

PJV Land Access Agreements Manager, John Liston, said “PJV is proud to have the opportunity to partner with the PNG Government under the Tax Credit Scheme and together take responsibility for completion of the repair and maintenance program for these public service houses.”

The project involved full maintenance and renovation work covering the interior, exterior, electrical, plumbing and finishing works.

PJV Community Projects Manager, Kila Kilaverave, told the tenants that the most important thing now was to look after the houses.
