The police picked up the man after they were alerted by members of the community.

Police report that the 26 year old man, who is living with his Kerema in-laws, is being held for questioning at the 6 mile police station.

The man has been charged with one count of drug possession after he was caught with almost 5kg of pre-packaged marijuana.

In another incident a youth was picked up in the area on Monday (2^nd November) afternoon after he was spotted by police to be under the influence of homebrew alcohol.

Pala presented himself at the Fraud Squad office at 10am and was questioned for more than two hours.

 “I am charged for carrying out my duty as Attorney General and legal adviser to the State. I carried out my duty and I have no personal benefit whatsoever,” Pala says.

In a statement distributed by the office of the Prime Minister, he says he will not make any further comments until the matter has run its full course in court.

This follows the Supreme Court dismissal on Oct 28 of an application to restrain police from arresting him.

Assistant Police Commissioner Crimes Thomas Elluh told PNG Loop that the minister has voluntarily come in for questioning by his  officers.

PNG Loop was on site when the minister turned  up and was openly greeted by him as he walked into the office.

A staff officer for Pala told PNG Loop that the minister is in good spirits and is happy to go in for questioning.

The first week of October has recorded at least one car jacking and one grievous body harm or wounding report per day in Port Moresby.

Justice Ere Kariko in hearing the urgent ex-parte application at the National Court on October 14 also issued orders against Baki and Ivaroa pursuing any criminal prosecution against the three or until further orders of the court.

The orders come after Director of the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate Chief Superintendent Mathew Damaru, his assistant Timothy Gitua and McRonald Nale filed an application on October 13 seeking interim orders against Commissioner Baki.

Alphonse Gale, a resident of Kokopo was severely wounded and detained by police allegedly without good reason.

Gale told Loop PNG from Kokopo that he was taken to Kokopo police station at around 8pm on Thursday to answer some questions.

He said as soon as they arrived at the station, the police officers started beating him and kicking him  around on the head when he fell to the ground.

“Their supervisor (Sgt Makis) was standing and flashing a bright torch to my face while the police officers beat me."

A police spokesperson says four officers were in the town of Mont-Dore at about 2 o'clock in the morning when they challenged a man accused of stealing a motorcycle.

The spokesperson says a car then deliberately hit the officers, injuring two of them.

The driver and the alleged motorcycle thief were then able to escape, and a large police operation has been launched to try and find them.

This morning's incident is the latest in a series of cases of police being targetted in New Caledonia.

The Australia-led force was deployed in 2003 after five years of ethnic tensions during which hundreds of people were killed, and thousands forced to flee their homes.

RAMSI has been gradually withdrawing its presence throughout the country as the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force takes control of frontline policing.

The RAMSI force commander, Greg Harrigan, says the police force in Malaita has proven it can maintain law and order without frontline assistance from RAMSI.

In a speech to the Australia-PNG Business Council,Abbott said a key focus of his meeting with  O’Neil was on how to use Australian expertise to make Port Moresby safer.

“I’m disappointed that our 73 police have not been more operational,” he said. “You won’t be surprised to learn that one of the principal subjects that Prime Minister O’Neill and I discussed earlier this morning was making them as operational as possible.”
