Hanuabada issue ultimatum over deaths

Chairman of the Motu-Koita The Way Forward group, Lohia Boe Samuel told LOOP PNG, “we will demand a timeline from police see arrests or resort to the unthinkable again. Setting up roadblocks.”

A planned get together by families and sympathisers of the two young men killed when police fired into the betelnut market at Hanuaba village on Saturday to be led by Lohia and his team did not eventuate.

This was to have taken place the final resting places of both men, beside Hanuabada village to commemorate their first anniversary.

Women in cell for assault

 The woman aged 29 bashed up her Madang neighbour after she suspected the 34-year-old woman of gossiping about her.

The suspect was picked up outside the Yakapilin second hand market at the Four-Mile area.

Police say the woman will be charged with assault and threatening words.

The initial attack took place on Monday January 18 at the woman’s East Boroko residence.

The victim had to get treatment for a bruised jaw and a dislocated shoulder after the suspect severely based her up.

The suspect is now at the Boroko Police Station.

 

Police nab youths selling drugs

Mark Yape and Tom Ipe aged 16 and 17 were arrested with about 10 kg worth of marijuana near the car wash area.

The two were intercepted by police who have been monitoring the drains outside of the Kone Tigers oval area.

The area has been under surveillance after tip-offs that there illegal drug sales were being carried out there.

Police picked them up with prepacked drugs around 10am this morning.

The two are now at the Boroko juvenile cells waiting to be charged.

 

Gordons police receive new tyres

The Station was given  10 tires by Country Tours Limited as part of the company’s community service obligation.

Wako Napasu Managing Director of Country Tours says that the tires were given to the station as a good will gesture to help officers work effectively.

Napasu says  police are a vital part of helping to ensure the good business environment in their area of operations.

He says that this is something that they company values and looks to help by continuing this gesture as they carry out a re-fleeting of  their vehicles.

Kimbe police compromising jobs: Muthuvel claims

Muthuvel told Loop PNG in an exclusive interview  claiming that some police officers  in Kimbe had connections with Asians doing business in Kimbe and it was very hard to report any wrong doings from the Asians.

He said it is a concern from long term operating local retail businesses that whether or not Asian businesses are properly registered with the Investment Promotion Authority, Internal Revenue Commission and whether they have proper work permits, visas and whether all of them have proper bank accounts need investigation by the authorities.

Andrews livid over delay in condom saga arrests

LOOP News understands Andrews is very angry as he has not received any reports on the incident and is now preparing to send a strong directive to NCD Police Commander Sylvester Kalaut and Metropolitan superintendent Ben Turi for an explanation.

Andrews believes the case should not be dragged on as there is strong evidence against Boroko policemen.

Andrews also informed Loop News was  that there is no need for the young lady to lay a complaint and that the policemen should already have been identified, arrested, charged and suspended from duty.

Police pursue poisonous fish deaths

PNG Loop was alerted to the tragic deaths by a reader yesterday but was unable to get comments from the hospital or relatives about the circumstances of the deaths.

Central police commander Laimo Asi however says that he will get police to speak with villagers at Yule Island as well as relatives of the three men who died and the other three who are in hospital after they ate the balloon or puffer fish.

Asi would not pre-empt assumptions surrounding the deaths but said that they would look into the deaths.

PM tells police: One strike you’re out!

In his New Year message O’Neill says the Government will introduce a “one strike and you are out” policy.

“The people of our country have had enough of ill-discipline from police,” he says.

He also assures this policy will come with a new structure which will hit policemen and women hard.

PM to make statement on Condom Saga

This follows worldwide reporting of the police man who forced a young woman to swallow condoms at the Boroko police station in Port Moresby.

O’Neill says this statement will be part of his New Year Message.

Meantime, Police Minister Robert Atiyafa could not be reached for his reaction as the Police Minister.

“Rogue Cop” behaviour riles Opposition

Leader Don Pomb Polye said: “Our women, girls, children and the disadvantaged should be treated with respect and dignity.”

Polye said ‘this rogue behaviour’ angered him, describing it as ‘inhuman and animalistic.’

Deputy parliamentary leader of Triumph Heritage Empowerment party and Lae MP Loujaya Kouza described the cop, who forced the woman into the act as ‘sadistic’.

“Sadistic is the word which best describes the ‘rogue cop’, who made my sister to chew condoms. There is no degradation as low as that going to break her spirit.
