Intending candidates for the 2017 National Elections have been flocking to the Electoral Commission headquarters in Port Moresby to submit their biodata, with the deadline today.

Joe Mondo went before Magistrate Maristella Painap on Friday where his charge was read and explained to him in court.

His case will go for trial on Jan 26 after he pleaded not guilty to the allegations against him.

He was arrested and charged with being in possession of a pistol without a license, a charge under Section 27 (a) of the Firearms Act.

It is alleged on Dec 31, 2016 , he had a P-85 calibre pistol in his possession along the Taurama road when he did not have a license.

A magistrate at the Boroko District Court made these comments in relation to a matter that came before her on Wednesday this week.

Magistrate Laura Kuvi said police cannot enter people’s premises without a search warrants or unless they are on court pursuit.

“It’s different when they are chasing somebody and that person runs into your yard, its immediate pursuit and they can enter your premises. But It’s different when they are coming to conduct a search. They need to obtain a search warrant,” she said.

Results from the questioning will determine the charges that will be raised against both officers.

 Both officers are currently being questioned by CID at the Boroko Police Station.

The Member of Parliament is alleged to be from an electorate within the nation’s capital.

Polye said it’s a shame when our leaders are reported to be involved in such illegal activities, harboring expatriates who over-stay their visas thus becoming agents of alleged drug trafficking and prostitution syndicates.

“If we have leaders in the country who perpetrate evil, bring expatriates into PNG to involve in alleged drug trafficking, prostitution among other illegal activities then our country is not in safe hands.”

The owner has been locked up at the Waigani Police Station cell.

He is also the first to be arrested by NCD police following unceasing investigations into the robbery.

CID Police say the six suspects involved in robbery are known but are yet to be captured by police.

Three other guns alleged to be used in the robbery as well have also been confiscated by police and owners of these firearms have been called in to be questioned by police.

Police are looking to get answers from the owners and tracking down the wanted suspects.

Over 15 months, Stephen Port, a 41-year-old chef from a working class east London borough drugged, raped, and killed four gay men he met on dating apps.

He then dragged their bodies a few hundred meters from his flat, planting drugs and even suicide notes penned in his own handwriting to make it appear as if they had overdosed.

About 200 youths from the two wards surrendered a homemade gun, two sets of live ammunitions and nine gas cylinders.

Among the youths are seven mothers who brew and sell homemade alcohol (steam) to the youths in order to earn income especially single mothers.

The mothers did not attend the ceremony but surrendered their homebrew equipment.

This morning while giving a brief rundown of police traffic operations, Assistant Police Commissioner Jerry Frank confirmed the engagement of the NSU and SSD personnel.

Frank adds that officers have split up operations to also cater for assistance to escort and ferry teams and organisers between the various match venues, training grounds and accommodation areas.

Residents are also being advised that a set route for transport will be confirmed and announced.

The workshop is about coordination between all security agencies based at the Jacksons Airport

Security personnel from different stakeholder agencies like CASA, Police, National Airport Corporation (NAC), Air Niugini security as well as other security agents who are based at the airport all took part in the one day workshop.

The training covered how and which stakeholder would play a lead role in security and protection of the major events that PNG will be hosting in the city.
