Believed to be an inside job, the armed men drove off the airport in a white Ford Ranger XLT which was discovered a day later at Five-Mile- Erima area.

Airport commander Robert Wane says the suspects are alleged to have crashed the Ford Ranger there after shifting the money to two Toyota Land Cruisers and taking off.

The suspects however are still at large and police are still investigating the whereabouts of the money and the suspects.

K1.2M belonging was confirmed to have been taken by five armed suspects.

Police believe that the robbery was an inside job as they walked in undetected knowing exactly where the money was in the loading terminal.

Airport Commander Robert Wane says the money was left at the airport on the previous day (Wednesday) and was in the process of being loaded into the chartered plane yesterday morning when the armed men held up the staff.

Airport Commander Robert Wane confirmed with Loop PNG this afternoon that a cash amount of K1.2 million was stolen.

The money was on its way to Kiunga in Daru.

The five suspects came in a white Ford Ranger.

Two waited in the car at the airport car park while three of the suspects, armed with pistols walked into the domestic terminal dressed in brown khaki disguised as guards.

They headed straight for the Tropic Air counter and departure lounge where the money was checked in to be loaded into the charted flight.

The workshop is about coordination between all security agencies based at the Jacksons Airport

Security personnel from different stakeholder agencies like CASA, Police, National Airport Corporation (NAC), Air Niugini security as well as other security agents who are based at the airport all took part in the one day workshop.

The training covered how and which stakeholder would play a lead role in security and protection of the major events that PNG will be hosting in the city.
