Wallabies

Cheika taking nothing for granted

Reigning champions New Zealand have been pitted against South Africa and Italy in Pool B, while England have France and Argentina for company in their five-team group.

The Wallabies, meanwhile, will go up against Wales and Georgia, as well as qualifiers from Oceania and the Americas, in Pool D.

But Cheika would not get carried away with what appears on paper to be a better draw, suggesting any hint of complacency could well prove Australia's downfall in Japan.

"When you're standing out there and singing the anthem, 0-0 all bets off," said Cheika.

Wallabies lose Coleman for remainder of tour

The lock picked up the problem, which tests have proven to be a grade two strain of the medial ligament, in the early stages of the 23-22 success at Murrayfield.

Coleman had also started the 32-8 hammering of Wales the previous week, but his participation in the tour is now over and he will miss further Tests against France, Ireland and England.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika conceded the news was a blow, but has been impressed with the way Coleman has combined with Rory Arnold and taken on the responsibility of the line-out.

Folau 'pissed' at Kuridrani try snub

With Australia down by six points in the dying minutes of the game Kuridrani broke the line with Folau unmarked outside him, but the Brumby opted to back himself for the winner.

While the gamble paid off, Folau was devastated to miss the opportunity to break an eight-match try drought in his 50th Test.

“He was very pissed off with me but we’ll deal with it after,” Kuridrani admitted.

The Wallabies next match is against France on Sunday morning (AEDT).

Wallabies call up former NRL star

Koroibete, who has signed with Melbourne Rebels after his stint in NRL, was included along with Kyle Godwin and Tolu Latu.

If he features in a Test, the 24-year-old Koroibete would be the first player since Tatafu Polota-Nau in 2005 to make a Wallabies appearance before a Super Rugby one.

Centre Samu Kerevi has missed out after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.

The five-Test tour sees Australia take on Wales, Scotland, France, Ireland and England.

Polota-Nau rested by Wallabies, 2 new caps named

As Polota-Nau sits out, two uncapped players – Melbourne Rebels' Sefa Naivalu and Waratahs' Tolu Latu – have been named in the 30-man squad.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika is already lamenting the absence of Polota-Nau for the matches against the Springboks and Argentina in October.

Wing Drew Mitchell is returning to France to continue the Top 14 season with Toulon, while Ben McCalman is also out.

Wallabies stick with 'Pooper' combo, Hodge to make starting debut

There had been growing calls for Cheika to dispense of the dual openside flanker model of Pocock and Hooper - nicknamed 'Pooper' - in his back row, with criticism levelled at its role in potentially weakening the Wallabies' line-out.

But Cheika has ignored the sceptics and named Pocock at number eight and Hooper at openside, with Dean Mumm replacing Scott Fardy at blindside flanker.

Fardy was left out of the matchday squad altogether.

Speight and Arnold join Wallabies

Speight, 28, returns to the squad after playing for Australia's rugby sevens side at the Rio Olympics where they reached the quarter-finals, while Arnold has overcome an elbow injury to feature and will look to build on strong showings in his two tests to date.

Fiji-born Sefa Naivalu of Melbourne Rebels is yet to complete his nationality switch, but will train with the squad before becoming eligible on September 18th and is one of four uncapped inclusions alongside Kyle Godwin, Lopeti Timani and Tom Robertson.

All Blacks retain Bledisloe Cup with win over Wallabies in Wellington

Despite a vastly better performance than last week's capitulation in Sydney, Australia never looked likely to win and could do little to stop the All Blacks once their irresistible catch-and-pass game clicked into gear.

Quade Cooper to make Test return

Speculation was rife that Cooper would fill the number 12 jersey after the Wallabies lost all three of Matt Giteau, Matt Toomua and Rob Horne to injury last week. But Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has opted to put the former Reds flyhalf straight into the main playmaking role.

Cooper will combine with usual Wallabies 10 Bernard Foley in a dual playmaker structure, with Foley starting at inside centre for the first time in his Test career.

Wallabies have no betting syndicate fears after All Blacks hotel room bugged

NSW Police are continuing investigations after a listening bug was found in the All Blacks team meeting room in Double Bay in Sydney last week.

The Rose Bay Local Area Command have confirmed gambling links will form part of their investigations.

"Gambling is a terrible thing if you ask me," Cheika said.

"I don't even consider that type of stuff, I don't even know why anyone would be even interested to do something like that.
