Carnage for Wallabies in Bledisloe opener

Three of Australia’s backs were lost before half-time, including both inside centres Matt Giteau and Matt Toomua, as New Zealand piled on the points, with four opening half tries and six overall, in front of 65,238 at ANZ Stadium.

All Blacks flyhalf Beauden Barrett shaded Wallabies counterpart Bernard Foley in a man of the match performance, with slick attack and accurate kicking and as much as Australia battled hard nothing seemed to connect.

Wallabies duo set to follow in fathers' footsteps at Bledisloe Cup in Sydney

Now Sio and Alaalatoa will continue their family's rugby legacy when they run out for Australia in Saturday's Bledisloe Cup test in Sydney.

And their fathers could not be prouder.

"It's one of those things you never dream of but for the two families, it's very exciting," Tavita Sio said.

The young pair grew up playing junior rugby together in the western suburbs of Sydney.

"We can't wait to get out there and support Allan, Scott and the Wallabies team," Vili Alaalatoa added.

Wallabies lose second Test against England 23-7

It marked England's first series win on Australian turf, but it was the turf itself that was the biggest talking point as the pitch more closely resembled a sand pit at times.

England had won the first Test 39-28 in Brisbane last week to set up the series victory.

Despite assurances from ground staff in the lead-up to the Test, the sub-standard turf failed to hold up for even the first scrum.

Chuck Norris says the Wallabies will win the World Cup with his ‘spirit’ behind them

In an interview with TVNZ’s Rawdon Christie earlier this week, sports presenter Tim Gilbert claimed the New Zealand All Blacks would need rugby union superstar Jonah Lomu and the legend Chuck Norris to play in order for them to beat Australia.

Upon hearing about the interview from friends in Australia, Norris contacted the TODAY Show to set the record straight.

“The Wallabies are going to have the power of Chuck Norris’ spirit there to help them win the game and they are going to win the World Cup,” Norris told the TODAY Show.

The Wallabies won the match 28-13 courtesy of a  stellar two-try performance from David Pocock.

In what was a far from a polished performance, the three-try win fell short of delivering a valuable bonus point in the 'Pool of Death' clash at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

In another game, Scotland beat Japan 45-10 in their opening game.

Australia pair Pocock & Hooper against Fiji

Pocock starts at number eight with Hooper at seven - just as they did in the win over New Zealand in August.

Toulon's Matt Giteau, who is available after the Australian Rugby Union relaxed rules over overseas-based players in April, starts at centre.

Will Genia is preferred to Nick Phipps at scrum-half and wins his 61st cap.
