Tinzey Mau

PNG’s first-ever girl band

Similarly, the Vibe - PNG’s first ever girl band, consists of three individually gifted singers - Tinzey Mau, Theresa Miria and Billie-Jean Kubul.

This weapon however, has far greater use – to cut through the traditionally male dominated music industry of PNG.

Under the guidance of band manager and mentor Nicole Jeune, the girl band is determined to pave the way and empower more female singers to follow through.

These are co-workers-slash-band-mates. They all work for a local TV station and they can sing.

PNGeans should grow local film industry, challenges director

This challenge comes on the back of the recently launched Lukim Yu film, now showing in the cinemas.

Canadian film director Christopher Anderson noted that films made in PNG tend to be more documentaries over fiction, like Lukim Yu.

He has encouraged people interested in film making to do so, starting with low-budget films.

“You want to know what a film maker is, a film maker is someone who goes out there and makes a film, so go and make a film. You don’t need to have a million dollars before you consider making a film,” he said.

PNGean film ‘Lukim Yu’ premiers today at Paradise Cinemas

The film has received great response from the public since its announcement and will premier today on the big screens at the Paradise Cinemas.

It also received good feedback from the audience during the advanced viewing last night.

Lukim Yu features an exclusively local cast, spotting familiar faces and familiar environments, with lead actors being Tinzey Mau, Godfreeman Kaptigau, Fabian Hera and Pauline Onsa.

It’s written and directed by Canadian Chris Anderson and centres around four young people living in Port Moresby.

Local film featuring local talents ready to be released

This is the first film to focus on the daily lives of young, urban Papua New Guineans.

Lukim Yu, is shot in PNG using exclusively PNG actors and produced by a Canadian named Chris Anderson.

The film stars are talented, up and coming actors, and for most of them, Lukim Yu is their cinematic debut.
There are some familiar faces from PNG Television, including Tinzey Mau from EMTV's Vocal Fusion, and Russell "Frogi Boy" Ashwin.
