The clashes erupted after the funeral of a 13-year-old boy killed during clashes with the Israeli military.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday he had no interest in an "escalation" of violence and is ready to talk with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Monday that he will use a "strong hand" to quell violent Palestinian protests and deadly attacks.

Israeli troops fired tear gas, stun grenades and deployed a water cannon to disperse stone-throwing Palestinian youths.

Several Israeli police officers were injured after fire bombs were thrown at them.

Emergency services said one officer was shot in the arm as well.

Friday's clashes follow days of unrest at Jerusalem's hilltop compound known to the Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount.
