Benji Marshall to the Broncos: Wayne Bennett offers NRL lifeline to former Kiwi Test star

Bennett is in discussions with Marshall about the prospect of the former Kiwi Test star joining the Broncos for a one-year swan song.

The revelations fuelled rumours Hunt could be squeezed out of Red Hill to link with ex-Broncos five-eighth Corey Norman at Parramatta.

In England preparing for the upcoming Four Nations tournament, Bennett has quashed speculation Hunt could be forced out of Brisbane.

“If Benji comes to the Broncos, and that is still an if, he will not be replacing Ben Hunt or Anthony Milford,” Bennett told The Courier-Mail.

Jarryd Hayne shouldn't return to NRL in 2016: Benji Marshall

Hayne's future is uncertain after he was cut from the Fiji Rugby Sevens squad, quashing his Olympic dream.

He was been linked with a return to the Eels – the club he quit to pursue a career in the NFL in late 2014 – as early as this month.

Skipper Kieran Foran's decision to quit the embattled club, to address personal issues, has seemingly opened the door for the Eels to fit Hayne under the salary cap for the rest of the season.

Marshall has been limited to just six games in 2016 due to a hamstring strain that flared up either side of the Round 5 clash in North Queensland, but appeared unencumbered in the return clash against the Cowboys before last week's bye.
