Kumuls outclass Bati

A junior Rau double on debut is one of the highlights as the Kumuls disposed off an ordinary Fiji Bati team.

Ranked 10th in World Rugby League, PNG outclassed the fifth placed and much fancied Fiji team.

Junior Rau scored the first of his double on debut in the 13th minute after Watson Boas fought off the defensive line.

Four minutes later Luke Page socred under the post after James Segeyaro offloaded following a Kumuls raid.

Rhyse Martin kick a penalty in the 23rd minute after Boas was hit late in a fifth last tackle.

Fiji would score through Tyrone Phillip after from a scrum play but the Kumuls would reply three minutes later through Rau scoring his second after a Justin Olam flick pass.

After the restart Segeayro ran through an opening from dummy half and put Olam who ran 50 metres to score under the post.

It was an even contest in the second half and it was in the 14th minute that Philips scored his second.

Bati would threaten but PNG’s defensive effort was strong as they held on to win 26 – 14.

Rhyse Martin was impressive with the boot converting all goals and a penalty.

ON the injury front Justin Olam suffered an ankle injury in the 58th minute and was taken off the park.

James Segeyaro was awarded the Man of the Match Award.
