Digicel Cup 2017 season launched

The 2017 Digicel Cup season was launched on Wednesday April 27, at Vision City in Port Moresby.

The Cup plus the eight captains of the franchises were out on show for the public to see to help build up excitement for the semi-professional competition that is all set to kick off this weekend.

Chairman of the PNG National Rugby League Competition (PNG NRLC), Adrian Chow said this weekend’s games will be played in Port Moresby, Lae, Goroka and Wabag.

“Later rounds will see games in all our other centres in Kokopo, Minj and Mendi.

Chow pointed out that the new national competition offers opportunities as well as challenges.

“For our opportunities, we are spreading the visibility and participation of the sport, and using it to raise awareness to address issues in social and economic development in all our communities.

“To the challenges, we require good venues and infrastructure and professional administration of our game.

“I thank all our stakeholders for understanding these opportunities and challenges and continuing to support this competition.

“I wish all the teams a great Digicel Cup 2017 season and play in the true spirit of the game,” said Chow.

The eight franchises: NCDC Vipers, Kroton Hela Wigmen, Agmark Rabaul Gurias, Reigning premiers Lae Snax Tigers, Bintangor Goroka Lahanis, Waghi Tumbe, PRK Mendi Muruks and EPG Enga Mioks.
