Bears too tough for Hunters

Intrust Super Cup premiers, the SP PNG Hunters, have yet to make their mark away from home.

Today the boys lost their fifth away game to the Burleigh Bears at Pizzey Park, who sit comfortably in first place with 14 points

Bears proved too tough for the defending champs, sealing the match with a 34-18 scoreline after Round 8.

The Adex Wera and Rhadley Brawa captained side locked horns with their toughest competitors yet, despite scoring their first and second through Junior Rau and Wera.

It was 12-10 at halftime.

Returning for second half, the Hunters managed another try through Butler Morris to put them ahead of the Bears.

However, the Bears managed to keep the Hunters at 18 points by catching up with them, and then piling on several more tries to put them 16 points ahead at the final whistle.

Meantime, this was an important match for both clubs; on this ANZAC Weekend as Hunters now hand over the Kokoda Cup to the Bears.

This is also the fifth Anzac weekend game between the two clubs, both having won two games each between 20-14 and 20-17.
