Xmas gifts for child patients

Christmas Season is a time of giving gifts and making friends and family happy.

In Goroka, Eastern Highlands students from Goroka Grammar school, with the assistance of teachers, brought the Christmas cheer to patients of the children’s ward at the Goroka Provincial Hospital.

This act of kindness brought tears to the eyes of parents and guardians of the children who were there. They did not expect such act of goodwill while they are confined to the hospital ward.

A mother from Lufa District, Martha Aniniki, is caring for her baby in the ward. She was in tears when the children gave gifts to her four-month-old infant. “When we come with our babies and get admitted here at the hospital, we feel sad and worry a lot. But now we are so happy to receive these presents from the students here,” Aniki said.

She added that being there as patients she did not expect anyone to think of them and bring them gifts. She was deeply grateful. Goroka Grammar School Teacher, Martha Poion said this is not the first time for the students from Goroka Grammar to bring Christmas presents to children at the hospital.

She said they did that every Christmas, except 2019 and 2020 because of COVID-19 restrictions.“That is why this year they were very happy to be able to bring these gifts to make the children and their parents and guardians happy while they are at the hospital.”
