Visiting surgeons to conduct open heart surgeries

In an effort to get advanced health care for this country, the Pacific International Hospital invited a team of cardiac heart surgeons to Papua New Guinea.

From the internationally reputed SAL Hospital, Ahmedabad, India, Dr Anil Jain and his highly experienced team – Dr. Rajan Modi, Dr.Vishal Gupta and Dr Naman Sastri – successfully undertook seven complex surgeries at PIH.

In a statement, PIH said the team arrived in Port Moresby on September 5 and will be available till the 9th.

“This is as per the plan for the next set of patients (eight so far) and to check up on these patients. All the patients were from different parts of Papua New Guinea,” said the Hospital.

In a revolutionary move, PIH executed a real-time telecast of an Open Heart Surgery, conducted by Dr Jain and his team, straight from their cardiac operating theatre, to all the delegates of the 53rd Medical Symposium in the Stanley Hotel.

“More than 500 doctors and medical professionals from all over the country have assembled in the Stanley Hotel for a period of 3 days as part of the annual Medical Symposium.

“All of them had this incredible opportunity to view, on two very large screens, the intricacies of something as complicated as a CABG procedure (commonly known as Open Heart Surgery), as Dr Anil Jain explained the procedure to the audience.

“Their visit was preceded by the visit of Dr Vineet Shankla, who came down to perform the procedures on PNG’s only Heart Cath Lab Machine and he successfully conducted 10 angiograms on patients to pin-point the blockages in their hearts and placed stents in two of them.”

PIH has initiated a free Chest Pain Clinic (every Friday) to start the process of identifying people who may require the services of such an advanced medical nature.
