Independence Runway beckons potential stars

A first ever Independence Runway will be staged during the three-day Street and Music Festival at Paga Hill in Port Moresby, which begins this Thursday.

The Runway, organised by the World Supermodel PNG, will feature a variety of PNG theme creations from local talents.

Phylma Kelegai of WS PNG said this is to provide a free platform for Small Medium Enterprises through aligning with events such as the independence.

“We understand that it is very difficult for SME’s to market their products so are providing one for them. This Runway is our way of giving back to the community,” she said.

Kelegai says there are seven participants and welcomes fashion designers, bilum dress weavers, meri blouse makers, and traditional artefact sellers to use this opportunity.

She said young models under the WS PNG agency will wear these products onto the runway.

This is the first of a number of runway events WS PNG will stage this year.

In the meantime, Kelegai says the agency, which is a new initiative, is scouting for talents and is welcoming young people interested in modelling to reach out through the Facebook page World Supermodel PNG.
