RPNGC to have its own White Paper Policy

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) will soon have its own White Paper Policy.

And in ensuring that it is significantly important, it is conducting a nationwide consultation meeting with the members of the Constabulary and other stakeholders.

Commissioner of Police, Gari Baki, has tasked the corporate planning directorate to undertake the policy with the help of consultants.

Northern Divisional Commander Peter Guinness commended Commissioner Baki for taking the initiative with the policy as there is none at the moment.

He said what they have is the Constabulary Standing Orders (CSOs) and the Police Force Act of 1998.

"It's about time we have a policy of our own that will guide our administration and operational aspect of policing.

"Right now, there is nothing. We are simply relying on the CSOs but the white paper policy will put everything into perspective," Commander Guinness said in Lae early this week.

The team travelled to the New Guinea Islands last week and this week, they completed the Momase leg in Lae. They are currently in Mt Hagen to cover the Highlands region.

Guinness said the paper will definitely help guide the organization. The consultation meeting will find some amicable way forward.

Guinness, who is also the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said although they are guided by the CSOs for reference in both their administration and operational aspect of policing, the white paper will be the umbrella policy.

"This policy will be the overall yardstick for guidance and references," he said.

He said there were many good suggestions and comments made during the consultation and those are information needed to build a vibrant policy paper for the organisation.
