PNG Kapuls concede defeat in friendly with Iran

The David and Goliath battle last night ended with regional football giants Iran defeating PNG Kapuls 8-1 in the international friendly at Shah Alam Stadium, Malaysia.

Kapuls captain David Muta told Loop PNG this morning that it was their first time to play against a World Cup team.

In the first five minutes of the game, Muta felt that they could match up their rival’s skills. However, as the game wore on, Iran proved to PNG’s national team that there’s a reason why they are 27th FIFA ranked while we are 159th.

“Football is all about 90 minutes,” says the Kapuls captain.

“We need to work harder.

“After the nations cup we were in good shape but following the long break, we need more time to train together as a team. All departments need to improve and get our fitness back.”

Muta also revealed to Loop PNG that some of them took the field with a heavy heart; they are still mourning the loss of the late ‘mother judge’ Catherine Davani.

“I always felt free to talk to her, hug her, shake her hands or go to their house. She was always open to everyone,” says Muta.

“She loved her sons very much and her Mr JD (John Davani). I always admired the way she took care of her bubus, her son’s children.

“I will miss you so much, Aunty Judge Cathy Davani. RIP.”

The late Justice Davani passed away last Friday afternoon (Nov 4) in Brisbane, Australia, after an illness.

From Central Province, she was 56 years old at the time of her death.

Her body was flown into the country yesterday afternoon and was taken to a funeral home.
