PNG crush New Caledonia 33-5

The PNG women’s team crushed New Caledonia 33-5 in their first game in Rugby 7s at the Pacific Games.

PNG’s Cassandra Sampson got the crowd on their feet when she made a break down the wing to score under the posts.

Two more tries to Dulcie Bomai for PNG extended this lead to 19-0 at half time after Joanne Lagona added the extras.

The PNG girls came out even stronger in the second half.  Amelia Kuk was next to grab a five pointer.

But the New Caledonians put up some fight when Yengo Yolaine scooted down the wing only to be dragged down metres from the tryline.

A few passes later, Waitreu Anne Marie bulldozed her way over to grab first points for the New Caledonians.

PNG brought the game to a close in style when Lagona ran 70 metres to score the last try and then converted it.

PNG will play Tonga at 4:02 pm this afternoon and then take on giants Fiji at 8:58pm tonight.
