New Zealand Trade & Enterprise office launches in Port Moresby

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) has appointed Peter Hobbs as the New Zealand Trade Commissioner for Papua New Guinea, and has re-opened a New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) office in Port Moresby today.

NZTE is New Zealand’s international business development agency, with 38 offices worldwide, supporting around 4,000 New Zealand businesses to grow their international footprint.

“An increasing number of New Zealand companies tell NZTE that they want to engage more with Papua New Guinea.  For this reason, and with a number of New Zealand firms already active in this market, it’s the right time to establish a presence in Port Moresby,” Clare Wilson, NZTE’s Regional Director for Australia and Pacific

“There are significant opportunities for Papua New Guinea to build business capability by working with New Zealand companies, particularly in mining, oil and gas, energy and renewable energy, infrastructure and construction.  New Zealand companies already have strong involvement in consultancy services around infrastructure developments, such as roading,” She says,.

As Trade Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Mr Hobbs will oversee NZTE’s activity in the country.

“NZTE will work with Papua New Guinea’s government, business associations, Chamber of Commerce and business partners to develop mutually beneficial business opportunities for Papua New Guinea and New Zealand,” said Mr Hobbs.

“While New Zealand is a relatively small country, we have world class expertise and we look forward to working collaboratively with Papua New Guinean businesses to further advance this country’s considerable growth and development.  Another benefit to our collaboration between Papua New Guinean and New Zealand businesses is that it will encourage greater innovation around products and services, as New Zealand companies tailor their capabilities to match Papua New Guinea’s specific needs.”

NZTE’s new office will be co-located with New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, at the New Zealand High Commission in Port Moresby.
