The Correctional Service needs a new vision and mission to effectively carry out its functions.
Newly appointed acting commissioner for Correctional Services Bernard Nepo said the new look must be based on the principles of true discipline and ethical conduct.
This must be directed towards the performing of core functions of safe security, humane containment and the welfare and rehabilitation of detainees.
“How to walk the path of our destiny is to cut down the existing moral issues, mainly the staff work and living conditions.
“This is to compensate for the rebuilding of the dynamics of security and to equip the officers with the technical know-how to perform the real correctional rehabilitation duties.
“We cannot lock the detainees and throw the keys away; this is contrary to our department’s name as the big picture is corrections,” said Nepo.
Nepo will act on the position for three months.
