Day aims to voice youths’ concerns

International Youth Day is a globally celebrated United Nations designated event, intended to allow young people to have a space to voice the issues that matter to them.

Young people in Papua New Guinea have been given the opportunity to express their unique desires and ambitions. This is to allow them to make connections to services and sources of inspiration to jump start their plans for the future.

A group of organisations have come together to plan the IYD celebrations and they include the NCD Governor’s Office, Transparency International, Population Service International, World Health Organization, Marie Stopes PNG as well as the Olympic Committee.

The core concept of this year’s event is to hold a one-day festival on August 21, dedicated to young people and the issues that matter to them, and of course to have fun.

The vision of the program will bring together local celebrities and inspirational figures, and the big names in the music and art industry as well as a broad range of service providers in the legal, financial, education and health sectors. This will stimulate young people with their work and performances.

The festival committee has partnered with NCD Governor Powes Parkop and his Walk for Life program.

An estimated 60, 000 people are expected to arrive at the Sir John Guise Stadium to kick off the event.

Given these base numbers, it is an opportunity for all involved to reach a number of people and potentially new clients or customers.
