Beach cleaned up after celebrations

Port Moresby’s famous Ela Beach has now been cleaned out.

After the Hiri Moale festivities, NCDC has had people down at Ela Beach since yesterday to clean out the beach of any rubbish so families can once again enjoy the recreational area.

Residents at Ela Beach say since the festival, the beach was full of rubbish and looked unhealthy but since yesterday, they saw people picking up what was left of the weekend festivities and some residents also joined to help clean up.

Ela Beach resident, Joel expressed thanks on behalf of the resident to the authorities for doing the right thing, adding that this should be done after every other event that takes place not only at Ela Beach but other places as well.

He add that this has to be the first time such has happened where after an event the beach is cleaned out and we appreciate the effort put into the cleanliness of the beach.

“We hope this will continue in the other events that will follow after this.”

A satisfied resident, Kairm Paki from Enga Province says, they started cleaning up yesterday (Sunday) and are continuing today as there is still some rubbish beneath the sand.

“We will continue our cleaning until the whole beach is cleared of rubbish,” she says
