International Yoga Day by the Sea

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India.

In his UN address, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi suggested June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.

High Commission of India S.L. Verma, representing the High Commission of India in Port Moresby gave the keynote speech where he expounded on the history of International Day of Yoga and its resolution proposed by India was endorsed by 177 member states.

Parkop condemns Ela Beach development critics

He said this during the unveiling of the 3D Ela Beach Redevelopment Master Plan today.

Governor Parkop said the plan was not an overnight idea but one which was approved six years ago by the National Capital District Commission Board, and it was only fitting that it is implemented to coincide with the APEC and Paga Hill developments.

He clarified the project was not part of APEC but only using the opportunity created by the hosting of the summit.

The changing face of Ela Beach

The current generation will remember it as the place of weekend entertainment, the next generation will probably see it as a big recreational park. But for those before 80’s kids, Ela Beach means much more.

Christopher Tava (born late 80's) is one, who over the years, saw Port Moresby’s magnificent beachfront lose its natural beauty.

“Ela Beach is not as beautiful as it was back in the days when it was a turtle beach,” he posted on his Facebook account.

Double killing during heavy downpour

Neighbours reported they found a body lying on the driveway after hearing six gun shots.

Loop PNG was at the Pacific International Hospital (PIH) last night when the victim was brought in.

According to the relatives, the victim, Raymond Logie, was a staff at the Department of Personnel Management. He was from West New Britain Province.

There was another unidentified male victim found shot dead at the scene.

Police cannot confirm whether the two deaths are related.

Explosion shakes downtown Port Moresby

Residents were taken by surprise when a bomb exploded this morning at Ela Beach, Port Moresby.

Book centre’s open day underway at Ela Beach

With special prices on books, Bibles and hymnals, DVDs and CDs and uniforms, the event is already attracting hundreds of Port Moresby residents.

Ronald Kolias, an accountant with ABC, said: “We normally have it on the first day of November, so this is the only one for this year”.

“But we also have it for our other centres like Madang and Manus, which take place over a couple of days.”

For ABC, Kolias says this is an opportunity to witness to the public.

Small craft markets popping up in Moresby

This happens so every time there are special occasions, like festivals such as provincial days, cultural events including school or work events that get the interest of tourists and locals as well.

Beach cleaned up after celebrations

After the Hiri Moale festivities, NCDC has had people down at Ela Beach since yesterday to clean out the beach of any rubbish so families can once again enjoy the recreational area.

International sporting stars to attend RSPCA Paws Walk

International sporting stars Andrew Walker, the first dual code international for Australia, and Jason Smith, former Olympian, Commonwealth Games gold medallist and captain of the NBA’s Sydney Kings basketball club, will be joining dog owners and animal lovers at Ela Beach on Sunday, October 9, for the 7th Paws Walk.

Walker and Smith will be present to cut the ribbon to officially start the walk.

Walk for Life campaign supports World Singing Day

World Singing Day is celebrated on 24 October every year since 2014 to connect the global family through song where communities organize their own WSD community sing-along.

PNG was part of this global singing revolution with a free show by Australia based Afrobeat and Reggae group Jamrock who performed five songs in front of more than 50 people.

Parkop took to  the stage before the show ended and thanked the group for a great performance.
