Arrest warrant out for Alois Kingsley

A warrant of arrest has been issued by the Kokopo Committal Court for former Madang Open MP Alois Kingsley relating to misappropriation charges.

Kingsley had failed to appear in court last week resulting in the warrant issued to police to arrest the former MP who is out on bail.

The misappropriation charges stem from 2011 in which he is alleged to have paid close to K6.6 million to a company he soley owned called Kokopo Earth Moving LTD (KEM LTD) for a water project.

According to police prosecution files sighted by PNG Loop, Kingsley, from Yabob in Madang, allegedly in September 2011 misappropriated K6, 577, 000 from a K125 million Sovereign Community Infrastructure Treasury Bill (SCITB) which was issued for infrastructure development purposes in Kokopo district.

It was the first SCITB case investigated by the now disbanded government sanctioned Task Force Sweep led by Sam Koim.

Although Kingsley was committed to stand trial in the National Court, he challenged this in a review at the National Court.

On March 22nd, 2013, the National Court dismissed the review and effectively allowed for the Committal Court's decision to go ahead.

When he failed to turn up last week from his last known address in Vunamami in the Kokopo District, the Committal Court issued the warrant of arrest which is now being executed by Kokopo police.

He is facing charges under section 383 A (1) (b) of the Criminal Code Act.
