The people of West New Britain Province can now access better health service from the YWAM medical ship.
Governor Sasindran Muthuvel on Thursday presented a cheque of K500,000 to the YWAM.
The funding was for the medical ship to bring the health services closer to the people in Bali Witu, Kandrian Coastal, Gasmata , Kove Kaliai and Gloucester and Kandrian Inland areas where they have not received any proper medical services.
“For the first time, we can address through this arrangement to carry out various medical operations such as dental operations and many other medical treatments.”
The program will run for five months and the medical ship will be in WNB water offering medical services to the rural masses and also empower the capacity of the rural health workers in the province.
“We are happy to establish this partnership with YWAM and thank YWAM for accepting our request.
“I am extremely pleased that our Health services has been considerably improved and I would like to thank all stake holders, Health Department, Australian Government and more specifically ADB.
Muthuvel said DB is investing K18 million in WNB by building four state of the art Community Health Posts fully equipped and furnished including clinic, residences and water reticulation for the clinic and for the first time we will be building state of the art facility in the most rural areas.
The health facilities include:
- Bali Witu LLG K4.5 million in Watukele;
- Wako K4.5 million in Kandrian LLG;
- Akonga K4.5 million in Gloucester; and
- Baia K4.5 million in East Nakanai LLG
He added that this will greatly reduce the burden to the Provincial Health Authority in Kimbe and provide decent health care facility to the rural population.
“Again PSIP funded K1.1 million to upgrade Bialla to become a District Hospital so it will greatly improve services in Bialla as it is densely populated.
“We also working closely with Catholic Health unit to support Valoka in Hoskins, Bitokara in Talasea and Silanga Health facilities in Cenaka, and support their initiative to provide health care services to our people.
“We have procured health and emergency boat at the cost of K500,000 to support health in the Province and many more new services in Health will be announced soon.”
