Spelling bee competition for Lae schools

Barata Streetstuf has announced the first ever ‘Lae Spelling Bee & Debates’.

This will be held from May 22- 26 in Lae, with finals held at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Indoor Stadium.

This event aims to become a platform for Lae Students to voice their opinions on issues they face, from the youth perspective.

It will consist of a spelling bee competition between the City’s Upper Primary Schools and a debate competition between the Secondary Schools.

All Primary and Secondary Schools are expected to participate. Most have confirmed participation.

In hosting this event, Barata Streetstuf seeks to highlight the importance of having the youth perspective heard and potential known, changing the general narrative of how youth are viewed in Papua New Guinea.

They hope to do this through discussion of the main topics of the event, being Youth Issues, Climate Change and Gender Equality, translating to increasing confidence in young people, while creating healthy inter-school relationships.

It is a sponsorship based event, with Tribal Sport PNG being the first sponsor for this event.

The Organizers are also fund-raising for it, with Sausage Sizzles at Eriku Oval every weekend leading up to the event, beginning Saturday 29th April.

Invitations are open to interested individuals and business houses who would like to assist in supporting the event, to contact the organizers.

Details can be found on the official facebook page, ‘Barata Streetstuf’.
