PwC calls on the business community to support local charities

PwC is calling on businesses to help sustain local charitable and non-profit organisations through its annual PwC Corporate Challenge.

This year’s event will be held on August 20, at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium in Konedobu.

The PwC Corporate Challenge is a five-kilometre fun run and walk that aims to raise funds for charity.

It started in 2001 and has since become one of Port Moresby's trademark events.

“We’re delighted to invite businesses and their people to join us at the 2017 PwC Corporate Challenge. Let’s come together and help create a sustainable future for our community,” said PwC Managing Partner Jonathan Seeto.

Over the years, PwC, through the event, has supported a number of organisations in the health, education, women and children sectors.

These include ChildFund, Ginigoada Business Development Foundation, Port Moresby General Hospital, Sir Buri Kidu Heart Institute, WeCare, Lae City Mission and others.

Through the funds raised, the organisations are able to sustain their activities focusing on skills training, early childhood education and health service delivery.

Ginigoada Business Development Foundation has used the previous funds to maintain its Multi Learning Centre (MLC) in Koki, wherein classes are held to teach participants how to use a computer. On the other hand, the 2016 funds will be utilised to support its Open Learning Project, which uses Wi-Fi to enable people from various villages, including those in the Central Province, to access training materials through their mobile devices.

WeCare supports Early Childhood Learning Programs in settlement communities in Port Moresby and also in Lae.

“We’re glad to see our beneficiaries create an impact to the communities they serve, with help from the many organisations that participate and contribute to the PwC Corporate Challenge. This drives us to continue running this event each year,” said Mr Seeto.

Registration for the 2017 event is now open.
