Nilkare plans to expand business council

President of the PNG Business Council, Robert Nilkare, says his main goal is for the Council to have fair representation from sectors of the business community.

He said this involves bringing more representation from sectors such as agriculture.

Nilkare, who is the country manager for New Britain Palm Oil Limited, said there are large commercial entities outside of Port Moresby that do not have representation in the capital.

He said the challenge now is to work on a strategy with his executives to make this a reality.

“Decision makers for a lot of these organisations are here in Port Moresby but it’s good to get involvement from people outside of Port Moresby so they feel like they are part of the Business Council of Papua New Guinea,” he said.

Nilkare has appointed his predecessor, David Toua, as his ex-officio advisor where a plan for 2018 will be developed.

“We’ll work out a strategy before the end of the year and hopefully we have a plan for 2018.

“Next year is going to be a busy year with APEC but I’m sure we can carry the message out to other areas.”
