Minister condemns burning of dormitory

“There can be no excuse for such a behaviour by students or anyone and I will ensure those responsible will be investigated and face the full force of the law,” Minister Maru said.

The Minister is calling a Special Meeting of the Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority to provide a report on the school. He has requested Yangoru-Saussia DDA CEO, Fantson Yaninen, to provide this report. The Minister wants to get down to the bottom of the reasons behind the burning of the dormitory.  

New high school for Winge

Yangoru-Saussia MP and Minister for National Planning and Monitoring, Richard Maru, said the District Development Authority (DDA) has approved the establishment of the high school.

Minister Maru made the announcement during the opening of a new three-in-one elementary classroom in Winge Central.

Minister Maru announced that the soon-to-be built high school was only awaiting a suitable land area as the initially identified land within the Winge community school was unsuitable.

Country’s biggest cocoa project planned

The project will see around 4,000 to 5,000 hectares of cocoa planted as part of the Sepik chicken, grain and cocoa innovation project.

The Project is a partnership between the State and Israeli company, LR Group, and will involve the use of advanced technology to increase yield and production.

Yangoru-Saussia Member and Minister for Planning & Monitoring, Richard Maru, visited the site of the soon-to-be built Momase Regional Nursery, which is expected to deliver 2 million cocoa seedlings per annum throughout the Momase Region.

Mobile squad barracks project stalls

Member for Yangoru-Saussia and Minister for National Planning & Monitoring, Richard Maru, said this to contactors during a visit to the project site on Monday.

Minister Maru said law and order is a major problem and he wants police on the ground immediately to deal with the issue.

A site meeting was held yesterday between Minister Maru, contractors, and the Provincial Works Department in Yangoru to get an update on the housing project.

Currently the major setback of the project is the availability of manpower.

Yangoru-Saussia: Waranaka’s application dismissed

A single-man Supreme Court bench dismissed the application by Waranaka, who sought leave to review an interlocutory decision and exercise of discretion of the National Court to allow the affidavits and competency applications of Maru and the Electoral Commission to go through.

The election petition before Justice Collin Makail is ready to go for trial in Wewak starting August 2018 and ending in September.

However, Waranaka filed an application to dismiss the affidavits and objections to competencies as being filed within time but served out of time.

102 to be summoned in Yangoru-Saussia petition

The two-month trial will run from August 1 to September 28 at the Wewak National Court.

Petitioner Peter Wararu Waranaka appeared in person today and informed the Waigani National Court that a video will also be presented as evidence when the petition goes for hearing.

He is alleging instances of bribery against re-elected member Richard Maru and instances of errors and omission at counting against the Electoral Commission.

Waranaka has also filed a review that is pending before the Supreme Court. The review is still in its leave stages.

​Maru confident of PNC’s rule

Maru was declared last night at Yangoru Station as member elect for Yangoru-Saussia District in East Sepik Province.

The PNC candidate, after the elimination round, was declared around 9pm by Returning Officer Martin Wana.

Maru, speaking after the declaration formalities, assured his people that the development projects started in his first term in Parliament will be completed.

He said PNC will form government and will not forget the people of Yangoru-Saussia.

Maru pushing the bar for development in his electorate

Maru who is also the Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister said education is the key ingredient of change.    

Under his chairmanship, the Yangoru Saussia District Development Authority have been allocating K3 million annually into the education sector.

He was speaking at the opening of a double -storey, four- in-one classroom at Saint Vincent Primary School in Koro Village, West Yangoru LLG. 

The classroom was built at a cost of K150,000.

Women celebrate inaugural event at Yangoru-Saussia

The two-day celebration, which was the first of its kind to be held in Yangoru-Saussia district, was made possible through funding by the Yangoru Saussia Development Authority, under the chairmanship of the Member for Yangoru-Saussia and Minister for Trade, Commerce & Industry, Richard Maru.

Women leaders who officiated at the celebration thanked Minister Maru for backing the celebration, which lacked the support of other local MPs.
