Hunters told to stay focused

Thirteen of the 15 member Pacific Games team comes from the Hunters while two players are from the Digicel Cup competition.

Hunters take on Redcliffe Dolphins in round 17 of the Intrust Super Cup at the Dolphins Oval.

Coach Michael Marum said their usual practice of “taking one game at a time” still applies as the Hunters prepare for their 10th consecutive win.

Marum believes in making sure the processes needed are there to get the desired result.

Hunters intact for Redcliffe Dolphins match

Coach Michael Marum has retained his players from last weekend’s mammoth  win against CQ Capras 68-4 in Kokopo as they prepare for this weekend.

Hunters will be chasing their ninth consecutive win in order to consolidate the second spot on the Intrust Super Cup points table.

Hunters are on 26 points while Dolphins are ninth on the ladder with 14 points.

The game at the Dolphins Oval is set for kick-off at 1.40pm.

Hunters make slight change for Tweed Heads match

Coach Michael Marum has made a slight change to his starting line-up promoting Brandy Peter from the bench in place of Kato Ottio who has been ruled out due to injury.

Marum has also brought in Warren Clare into the side naming him on the bench.

The PNG side is currently in fourth spot on 22 points behind second-placed Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Ipswich Jets while Tweed Heads hold ninth spot.

Hunters delivered on the night a 34-12 victory which gave the event a historical significance, setting a record of seven straight wins in their two-year existence.

PNG Rugby Football League interim chief executive officer Shane Morris said it could be a record in the largest crowd of 15, 000 that has ever watched an Intrust Super Cup competition proper game.

This was also the first time in a long time that a rugby league game in PNG has been played under lights.

SP Hunters’ fans thanked for great support

PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka said in a statement that with the stadium filled to capacity (15,000), that augured well for the future of sports in this country.

He thanked the many thousands of spectators who turned up to watch the game for their good behaviour on the night.

“This painted a very positive picture that on the back of national unity and great team work, we can achieve many great things for PNG.

“It clearly demonstrates that we can host events of such magnitude as the Pacific Games in three weeks.

Games bosses to report on fake tickets report

Eyewitness accounts state many people were not allowed in through the gates because their tickets were not genuine as they had been bought off the streets.

The Games Organising Committee (GOC) said a response would be made later today over these reports.

The PNG National Rugby Rugby Football also commented, saying they were not aware of the reports of fake tickets being sold.

"Tickets were sold only at Stop N Shop outlets and nowhere else. People should not have been buying off the streets.
