Marum blames loss on undisciplined play

Hunters went down to Norths Devils 32-18 in round four of the Queensland Intrust Cup in front of 5148 supporters at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

Marum admitted that it was undisciplined play from the team, especially during the first half and early in the second half, giving away four penalties.

“We got off to a bad start and we allowed four easy tries,” said the coach.

“Our kicks at the end of the sets didn’t go well, allowing the Devils to score 12 points in less than five minutes.

The visitors scored through Matiu Love-Henry, Javarn White, Dalton Philips and Delouise Hoeter.

Hunters tops Intrust Cup Ladder

The super-impressive Round 3 performance saw Intrust cup teams shuffle back and forth on the ladder while the hunters climbed to the top.

Burleigh Bears failed to maintain their win after topping the ladder for the last two weeks when East Tigers toppled them to fifth placing after round three.

The top three teams on the ladder are Hunters with 6 points, Townsville Blackhawks also on 6 points but with added advantage the Hunters are on top because of the winning margin between Burleigh Bears and East Tigers.

Marum: Team stuck to game plan to win

“We got off to a slow start but the boys just stayed focused on the game plan and stuck together in the last 40 minutes to win," said Marum.

He said there was still a lot of work to do before the finals with plenty of negatives and positives taken from this afternoon’s game.

“Our completion rates were not that good which we will work on.

“But our forwards like Willie Minoga led the way and everyone else just followed through. The backline too did their jobs and so overall a good team effort," said Marum.
