Hunters suffer first defeat this season

The SP PNG Hunters have suffered their first defeat this season.

Hunters went down to Norths Devils 32-18 in round four of the Queensland Intrust Cup in front of 5148 supporters at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

Two tries from Bland Abavu and one try from captain Ase Boas were not enough to take the Hunters home.

Devils dominated the game scoring four tries and converting four penalty kicks.

The visitors scored through Matiu Love-Henry, Javarn White, Dalton Philips and Delouise Hoeter.

Devils were the first to score through Love-Henry just three minutes into the game breaking through Hunters strong defense to score.

Successful conversion by Todd Murphy took the visitors ahead 6-0.

Devils wasted no time scoring their second try three minutes later through White to extend the lead 12-0 following a successful conversion.

Seven minutes later Devils made use of the opportunity to add points to their score converting the first penalty goal kick 14-0.

16 minutes into the game Devils scored again through a quick play by Philips to extend their lead 20-0.

Hunters played hard to score their first try 26 minutes into the game.

The try was scored by Bland Abavu and converted by captain Ase Boas to take their score up 20-6.

Devils extended the lead scoring their third try three minutes to half-time through Hoeter and a conversion by Murphy extended the lead 26-6.

Hunters kicked off the second half on a low note making more mistakes giving another penalty kick to the Devils just eight minutes into the second half.

Devils converted the penalty goal kick to increase their lead 28-6.

It was an intense game with a lot of pressure put on the home team as they gave away the third penalty to the Devils.

Devils converted the penalty goal kick 30-6 with 11 minutes on the clock.

Abavu scored his second try 5 minutes later to take Hunters up 30-12.

Hunters continued to make mistakes giving Devils their fourth successful penalty kick 32-12 in the 23rd minute

Hunters came from behind to score their third try in the 26th minute through Boas who converted his own try 32-18.

Devils held on and beefed up defense preventing Hunters from scoring until the final whistle at full-time.
