French President in PNG

The meeting between President Macron and Prime Minister James Marape follows their earlier encounter in Gabon during the One-Forest Summit.

PM Marape, NCD Governor Powes Parkop, Motu-Koita Assembly Chairman Dadi Toka Jnr, Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko, Police Commissioner David Manning and PNG Defence Force Chief, Major General Mark Goina received French President Emmanuel Macron.

The French President arrived with the Prime Ministers of New Caledonia and French Polynesia.

PM apologises for mine closure

Speaking during the Security Forum in Paiam town, PM Marape called for a stop to tribal fights; to drop the guns and pick up business opportunities when the mine reopens. He appealed to communities to work with the security forces and maintain law and order.

KCH gets K200Mil to improve SOEs

To save the face of the SOEs, the Treasurer presented a K200 million funding to Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH) on Friday June 14th.

After a 4-hour long meeting during which the Prime Minister was provided a full status report on the three State-owned enterprises, PM Marape said it was overdue that major efforts be put into these SOEs to help them equalize the community service obligation roles they have been playing with profit-making.

Signing of fisheries agreement a milestone: PM

The MOU was signed during a ceremony by RDFG, the National Fisheries Authority (NFA), Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH), and the Ministry of International Trade and Investment (MITI).

Witnessing the signing were Prime Minister Marape, Minister for International Trade and Investment Richard Maru, State Enterprises Minister William Duma, and Fisheries Minister Jelta Wong.

Under the MOU, RDFG and the State will engage in negotiations to establish a fishing company in Madang.

MTDP IV must be a game changer: PM

Prime Minister James Marape made these remarks when launching the MTDP4 in Port Moresby.

He said the MTDP4 is intended to fast track the implementation of key initiatives that will cover the gaps after MTDP 3 so that we set the pathway to move into the next couple of years leading into 2030 as the decade of prosperity under Vision 2050.

“It demands that we work really hard and focus our resources on key outcomes.

PM: Gov’t bodies must align with MTDP

Under the directive, Prime Minister Marape stressed the importance of immediate action and the need for all departments and agencies to deliver tangible benefits to the people of Papua New Guinea, so that the targets of MTDP IV are achieved.
 
He stated that the PANGU Pati participated in the 2022 elections with a primary focus on five key areas:
  • Fostering economic growth for achieving economic independence,
  • Developing vital infrastructure like Connect PNG
  • Enhancing education
  • Improving healthcare, and 

President Widodo departs

The bilateral meeting at the APEC House with Papua New Guinea government leaders led by Prime Minister James Marape had the two leaders discuss economic relations, shifting focus of formal talks from border issues to trade, business and people relations.

Prime Minister Marape announced that President Widodo has committed a K55 million grant for facilities at the Port Moresby General Hospital, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the mortuary. 

The Indonesian delegation and President Widodo including PNG government leaders have vacated APEC house for their departure. 

A final accolade for Sir Kostas

Representing the length and breadth of Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Marape offered final respects and condolences to the family and friends of Late Sir Kostas Constantinou, who called PNG home.

During his funeral service at the Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Brisbane last Friday, June 30, 2023 PM Marape delivered a heartfelt eulogy, reflecting the sentiments shared by the nation.

He described Sir Kostas as a humble and well-respected man who believed in greater things for PNG, his business, and family.

PANGU endorses Semoso for North Bougainville

Marape said in recognizing the need to elevate more women to the National Parliament, Ms Semoso has stood out in North Bougainville as a strong candidate hence her selection by the party.

“In recognition of the need to elevate more women to the National Parliament, Ms Semoso has stood out in North Bougainville hence her selection,” said Marape.

“Ms Semoso has shown strong leadership in Bougainville where she is active among the community. For Bougainville, we are well aware of the role women play in traditional and contemporary cultures and Ms Semoso’s involvement.
