Biden will bring US investors

PM Marape said, “I was advised in a meeting I had with his (Biden) Chief Advisor in White House last week Friday. The advice came through that President (Biden) is also bringing a team, a panel of investors also who want to come and take up residence in our country and do business.”

Marape says details of these discussions will become clear as the visit of President Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi draws closer.

PM opens SEZ summit

The event organised by the Department of International Trade and Investment brings together SEZ experts from around the world, Government departments and agencies, private sector and the provinces to discuss the establishment of SEZs in PNG.

The summit has attracted international experts from China, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and India, to share their experiences and offer to the nation what can be done to pursue our own Special Economic Zone.

Bialla welcomes K9.1m court house

The Bialla Court Complex will house both the District and the National Courts. It was built at the cost of K9.1 million. 

In his keynote address, Prime Minister Marape made a verbal commitment to build similar facilities for districts across the country. 

He added that he is aware of the Judiciary's planned reforms for a three tiered court system. This will see the Court of Appeals as well as the District and National Courts brought closer to the people. The Minister for Justice and Attorney General Pila Niningi will be bringing a paper to Cabinet next week. 

Talasea launches development plan

The Development Plan covers mainly the key priority areas including economic empowerment, infrastructure, health, education and law and order.

Prime Minister James Marape has commended the MP for Talasea, Freddie Kumai for putting together a well organised Five Year Integrated Development Plan for the district.

The Prime Minister when launching the plan on Thursday said the plan is an important strategy the district needs to bring tangible services to the people.

Association calls for PM’s visit

This call comes after a weeklong Annual General Meeting at Bwagaoia Station on Misima Island, staged by the association. Its members are made up of women from islands and atolls from the Louisiade Local Level Government.

Association President Elizabeth Donald and Manageress of the Misima Guest House Violet Elvis, both made the call when addressing the women in the presence of Samarai Murua MP Isi Henry Leonard.

K1 mil to fix Lassul-Baining roads

This will be made possible for the North Baining area through a public-private partnership.

Gazelle MP, Jelta Wong, who is also National Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, in partnership with local landowner, Henry Saminga Jnr, invited KKC Veneer Limited to set up a multimillion-kina veneer mill at Kurindal.

Marape meets Korean Envoy

It is reported that they discussed ways to further enhance the cordial Papua New Guinea Korea diplomatic relations established on May 19, 1976.

These relations have been described as being warm, friendly and constructive covering many different areas at varying levels from economic, social, cultural and people-to-people relations.

The meeting also facilitated discussions on increasing economic cooperation to boost current relations, the PNG government’s stance in downstream processing, fisheries, health and police cooperation among other high-level matters of importance.

ICAC commissioners appointed

Prime Minister James Marape made this announcement on the floor of Parliament today.

The Prime Minister also clarified that since taking office in 2019, all leaders agreed to pass the law on the ICAC.

He said the work of establishing ICAC started back then since the second Parliament but didn’t fully established till the 10th Parliament.

Marape also acknowledged the contributions of the former regime led by Peter O’Neill for pushing through the ICAC bill but fell short to reach Parliament.

Report corruption to authorities, not Facebook: PM

Marape made this call today on the floor of Parliament when responding to questions raised by MP for Moresby North East, John Kaupa.

He encouraged the people to file complaints with relevant authorities.

“Not all leaders are involved in corruption. Do not accused leaders on corruption and posted accusations on Facebook. If you have evidence, file your complaints with the police or Ombudsman Commission.

“Facebook is not a Police Station, ICAC or Ombudsman Commission.”
