Nicholas Miviri

Hard labour for senior constable

Police men and women are not above the law and will comply with the laws before they enforce it, says acting judge Nicholas Miviri of the Kimbe National Court, when passing sentence against an officer who abused his authority by discharging a firearm in public in 2016 at Morokea village.

A 41-year-old senior constable, based in West New Britain Province with 22 years’ service, will spend the next two years in hard labour at Lakiemata jail.

Miviri re-appointed acting judge

He took his oath before Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae today at the Government House in the presence of Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia.

Acting Judge Nicholas Miviri was reappointed for a further 12-month term on 12 February, 2018, by the Judicial and Legal Service Commission.

Chief Justice Sir Salamo said in the short time Miviri has been acting judge, he delivered a very good performance record of 300 judgments which was recognised by the Commission.

He will be reassigned to the West New Britain Province.
