West Papuans given land in city

That piece of land is located at the back of Gerehu stage 1 along the newly opened Gerehu to Nine-Mile road.

The land allocated for the West Papua Refugees lies directly opposite the Public Servants housing project.

At least 10 hectares of land has been allocated through the help of NCD Governor Powes Parkop.

The West Papuans have welcomed the initiative, which comes at a time when many of them are being evicted from their temporary place of residents in Port Moresby.

NCD schools urged to return to classes

This follows the suspension of classes due to precautionary measures following the planned nationwide stop work protest by civil society groups today.

Minister for Education Nick Kuman is calling on all heads of schools and institutions to immediately return to classes and not to take heed of information on social media to cancel classes.

Kuman said schools in both NCD and in the other provinces must not give in and be influenced and intimidated by politically-motivated individuals and organisations.

Accident causes traffic jam in NCD

An accident involving two 15 seater buses at the Hohola round about was the cause of the jam that stretched from the Taurama roundabout

Right to the roundabout at Hohola.

Police were on the scene as were passengers of both buses.

It’s not known yet if there were any injuries but by 0830, the vehicle disrupting flow of traffic was still to be towed to the side.

Games Baton receives big welcome at Ela Beach

Three lagatois escorted the baton ono shore from nearby Manubada Island to be welcomed by 20 dancing Hanenamos.

The baton will continue its 100 days journey in the nation’s capital after having toured Central Province last week.

The baton was handed over by Central Governor Kila Haoda to Motukoita president Miria Ikupu who then handed it to the Oil Search Ambassador for NCD Rea Obui.

Obui then presented the baton to NCD Governor Powes Parkop who gladly received it and said it’s a big indication of what is about to come in the city.
