TIPNG released a statement following the Electoral Commission’s announcement of postponing polling for NCD for a second time on Wednesday 6 July to Friday 8 July.

“It is the PNG Electoral Commission’s constitutional responsibility to deliver the National Elections and the PNGEC must be accountable for its actions, if the country is to avoid a declaration of failed elections, said Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) Board Chair, Peter Aitsi.

After the festive break the top 6 finals playoff was scheduled to resume last Saturday however games were disrupted upon a late notice of suspension of games from the Pandemic Controller, over threat of a 3^rd wave of the COVID-19.

Southern Super League Competition Secretary Indy Verena said they have to abide by the latest direction despite the competition having fully complied with all Niupla Pasin protocols from day one.

The report stated that the 2017 elections did not improve on the 2012 elections. The 2017 observations made in all four regions and in National Capital District (NCD) with a mix of urban, rural, open and provincial electorates observed.

These include in 69 of 111 electorates with detailed study of 44 electorates (33 open and 11 provincial) and detailed observations at 945 of the 10,825 polling stations nationwide.

According to the report, “the 2017 elections witnessed a marked deterioration in the overarching election environment.

He expressed satisfaction of what partnerships can do at the signing of partners’ MoU during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Metoreia Health Centre on Wednesday 7^th December, 2021, which will serve the Motu-Koitabu people.

They will now be able to have their own health centre, Metoreia Health Centre at the Hanuabada village in Port Moresby.

Governor Parkop said the National Capital District Commission, under his leadership cannot deliver services on our own. It needs partnerships.

This brings the total number of cases in NCD to 262 and 424 for the country. The death toll remains at four.

This case is among 1,887 samples that were collected in NCD between 31 July to August 26.

In a statement National Pandemic Controller, David Manning, said of the people that have tested positive to COVID-19 so far, 53.8 per cent are asymptomatic (no symptoms).

Manning said  out of the 27 health facilities and sites expected to collect samples for COVID-19 in NCD, only seven are conducting tests with the Rita Flynn Isolation Facility leading the way.

He made the announcement today, when announcing NCDC’s plan forward during the extension of the SOE lockdown.

Seventy percent of the people living in the city depend on the informal sector for survival. The betel-nut business alone has helped a lot of families in the city and the Central and Gulf Provinces to put food on the table, pay for school fees and to provide for necessary needs.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop says, there has been enough information disseminated to city residents by the awareness team and also through the media.

As of Monday penalties to persons who do not comply with the rules under the SOE will take into effect.

In a press conference today, Governor Parkop says he has asked the Defence force to help with police to mend the streets of Port Moresby during this two months lockdown.

The Governor outlined that the main markets around the city will continue to operate. However, road side markets are prohibited.

This has forced prices in markets to sky rocket since last week leaving residents with no choice but to bear with it.

Since the nationwide lock down by the Government, road blocks have been staged at the four entry points into Port Moresby forcing some fresh food resellers to bring in produce the hard way.

Women resellers at the Boroko market say they had to pay for private trucks and taxi’s to bring produce from the Bautama entry point into the city.

Susan Kale from Chimbu province said this is why their prices for have risen up.

Gordon police personnel were alerted to the crime scene by security guards, who discovered the body.

Police reported that the victim looked to be in his early 30s.

He was found wearing an orange shirt, a blue cap, and carrying a small green bag.

Police have appealed to city residents with any information relating to the person’s death, to come forward and assist.

According to the NCD/Central Divisional Command, the syndicate is run by a chain of Bangladeshi shops operating at Morata and Hohola in the Natiopnal Capital District.

Members of the Gordon Police and K9 units raided two shops run by the syndicate and netted several cartons of imitation corned luncheon Pork meat.

The raid was initially targeted at confiscating cartons of corned beef and soft drinks allegedly stolen from a major Bangladeshi-owned wholesaler based in the NCD.
