​PIH to host advanced care camp

The 3-day advanced cardiac camp has been organised with the West New Britain Provincial Health Authority.

The camp commences today, July 5, and runs through to Friday, July 7, and will be stationed at the Kimbe General Hospital.

The camp will conduct ECG tests, echo-cardiogram & will have a senior consultant (cardiologist) – Dr Suresh Venkita – counselling patients, for free.

He will also talk to the aggregated medical fraternity (grand round) on the medical aspects of heart failure, in a talk titled “Heart Failure - Recent Advances” on Friday (8am – 9am).

Marus nominates to dominate Talasea seat

He is adamant he wants to dominate the seat for three terms to equal the record set by Patterson Balive Lowa.

Truckloads of supporters from the oil palm blocks convoyed along the Kimbe-Hoskins road as they chanted, sang and dangled from moving vehicles with faces smeared with paint and traditional attire.

Over 45,000 people to access upgraded hospital

During the ground-breaking ceremony on Wednesday, WNB Governor Sasindran Muthuvel.

Speaking during the ceremony, Muthuvel expressed his gratitude in finally seeing this major project become reality. A funding of K1.1 million from the Provincial Services Improvement Program was available since 2015, but couldn't materialise due to the delay in the bureaucratic process.

"In any Government, education and health are two main priority sectors as they go hand in hand, just like both eyes in the human physical function that has each sharing equal importance,” said the Governor.

NCD women’s softball squad finalized for PNG Games

Team manager, Roddie Pidik Soweni released the squad this week after confirming three players (Julie Naime, Tessa Karai and Dessie Loniu) have pulled out due to work commitments.

She said Esther Xknijk and Annisa Markis have been slotted into the squad.

The squad: Carolyn Apelis, Christine Raphael, Esther Xknijk, Francine Malum, Joycelyn Paon, Jaura Dambui, Miriam Dapal, Nicole  Mamia, Quandalynne  Vinim, Roseeliakim Apelis, Annisa Markis, Vinnie Parom, Matilda Cholai-Pagal, Andrewla Moa.                                                                                 

Governors urged to support provincial teams

The Games will be held from March 18-April 1 in Kimbe, West New Britain, and will bring together 23 provincial teams and 12,000 athletes and officials.

Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko appealed to all governors and open members to support their provincial teams with needed funding and logistics.

Tkatchenko said all MPs must assist to get their teams over to Kimbe and sponsor as many of their athletes from their districts and province.

2017 PNG Games preparations on track

The Games will be held from March 18-April 1 and will bring together 23 provincial teams and 12,000 athletes and officials.

Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko confirmed that 90 percent of the venues are complete, with preparations progressing well.

However, the only issue that is slowing the contractor down is the wet weather, Tkatchenko said, which plays a major role in the timing of the completion of the facilities.

Police to launch project to monitor officers’ movement

Police Commissioner Gari Baki made the announcement on Monday at the opening of the Police Commissioner’s conference in Kimbe, West New Britain Province.

“In this project we will establish a 24/7 call center  inside internal affairs which means any member of the public that see any police vehicles in the wrong places buying or consuming beer they can ring direct to POM.

“The call center will direct the issue back to the PPC or the Station commander of the report received and disciplinary actions will be taken within 21 days.

All –weather athletics track nears completion for Games

The synthetic running surface was laid this week and only needs the finishing coat and line markings.

Athletics PNG President Tony Green who visited the site on Monday said the Contractors have done a great job and the track will be the Pride of West New Britain.

“It’s a great venue “ he said and the work is of a very high standard, similar to the track laid in Port Moresby for the Pacific Games last year.

Kimbe to host Cancer awareness campaign

Organised by aspiring young female doctors to raise awareness on Women’s cancer, the event will be held at the Sanremo Hotel.

One of the organisers Dr Hilda Audubo told Loop PNG that this month of October is Women's cancer awareness month and so her doctor colleagues are organizing two exciting events to raise awareness on breast and cervical cancers.

She added that at the same time they will be doing fundraising towards purchasing the much needed pap smear kits so all the girls and mamas in the province can be screened.

WNB Chamber of Commerce call for delay in Games

The WNBCCI is urging the PNG Sports Foundation and the WNB Host Organizing Committee to carefully consider deferring the 2017 games to October.

In an official correspondence to Loop PNG, WNBCCI president, Ian O’Hanlon, tells PNG Loop that the proposed month for the games to be held is one of the wettest.

He said the issue was raised during their September meeting, which was attended, by Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel, and a PNG Sports Foundation representative.
