FPDA extension officers in Kimbe

The assessment includes studying the environment, climate and weather patterns and soil type.

FPDA was invited by the Talasea District Development Authority (DDA).

Participants were also involved in interactive game sessions, energizers, moments of reflection, nature meditation and prayer throughout.

New bishop of Kimbe appointed

The announcement was made by the Apostolic Nunciature (Vatican Embassy) in Port Moresby on Friday, 18th October, at 8pm. 

Reverend Father John Bosco Auram replaces His Lordship Most Reverend William Fey, OFM Cap, Bishop of Kimbe, who has reached the age limit.

Father Auram was born on 19th October, 1972, at Sara, West New Britain. He was ordained on 17th January, 2004.

Life imprisonment for 3 murderers

19-year-old Joe Raphael, 20-year-old Micah Raphael and 27-year-old Bokomo Manlem were sentenced to life in jail for killing a police reservist, George Misang, in Kandrian last year.

The three pleaded guilty to killing 54-year-old police reservist George Misang on 4 September 2017.

From Paon village in Kandrian, the three were involved in a fight that night after consuming homebrew when the deceased came across them.

Gov’t believes in equal employment opportunities: Minister

Minister Wong said this during the official opening of the 10th Policewomen's Advisory Network conference in Kimbe, West New Britain Province, on Monday.

Minister Wong said at present, 16 women were appointed to various positions of authority and trust as CEOs and secretaries of government agencies, demonstrating the government's commitment towards empowering women in the society.

Contractors to be held accountable

That was the clear message delivered by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill when opening a new classroom in Kimbe, West New Britain Province.

“Continuing to improve education is our government’s commitment to our future generations,” he reiterated.

“Better education provides the greatest hope for our children, particularly in remote and rural areas.

“In 2018 we have allocated K1.29 billion for the education sector, which is nearly 9 percent of National Budget. This is an increase of 13 percent from the 2017 Supplementary Budget.”

The week long Community Child Protection Volunteers Training in Kimbe, WNB Province from the 9th – 13th October was made possible through the Public-Private Partnership arrangement with Papua New Guinea Governance Facility (PGF) and the West New Britain Provincial Administration working together.

On hand to witness the graduation and present Certificates to the 32 participants was a/Executive Director, Office of Child and Family Services –Simon Yanis and Secretary for Department for Community Development and Religion Anna K Solomon.

Muthuvel commits to secure road funds

This is an OPIC proposed project to upgrade the 1250km oil Palm roads, out of which 750 km is in Kimbe, while the other 500km is in Oro and Milne Bay Province.

“It will be beneficial to the National Government, to fix these roads that will in turn provide increased tax revenue from NBPOL as a result of shorter pick up intervals, that will boost remarkable increased production,” he said.

He added that proper road conditions will also encourage small holder growers to collectively bring their own fruits to the mills, which is an added bonus to production time and rate.

Contradictory decision on Sunday polling in WNB

This is after allegations of polling on a Sunday held in Wasum in the Kandrian Gloucester Open seat.

It is understood that Team 11 conducted polling on Sunday July 2, the last day of polling due to several factors.

According to the report from team 11, they had encountered bad weather including rough seas, strong winds and rain.

When they arrived at Wasum, the village chief, elders, the people and scrutineers all agreed for voting to take place after church service so they exercise they constitutional rights to cast their votes.
