Training to address domestic violence

The training was aimed at empowering Village Court officials in implementing the Family Protection Act 2013 (FPA) and tackling issues related to family and sexual violence (FSV).

Day One commenced today, February 27th with the registration of stakeholders overseen.

Discussions throughout the day delved into gender-based violence dynamics, FSV prevalence, and fundamental human rights concepts.

Secure ‘seif haus’

The building they operated out of was not secure and compromised the safety of clients and staff.

This changed when a permanent, secure facility was constructed on Bougainville Catholic Diocese land with support from the Australian government through the PNG-Australia Partnership.

GBV A Disease

The video, titled ‘Pathways to Justice – Strongim sindaun bilong femili’, is a documentary that showcases the legal and support options made available for survivors of family and sexual violence in PNG and how the people and services are working hard to keep them safe.

Commissioner Manning in his speech told the Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council (CIMC) and the Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee (FSVAC) that the constabulary is committed in addressing Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the country.
