Two out of seven escapees recaptured

Steven Rerem from Bitapabeke Ward and Michael Ganabun from the Kokopo district of ENB were two of seven hardcore suspects who broke out of the police vehicle while it was making its way to the jail after a day at the Kokopo Court House.

Rerem and Ganabun have returned to prison and are in police custody for robbery and attempted murder charges, whereas the rest are still at large.

ENB provincial police commander Chief Inspector Peter Kusup said Police Task Force members recaptured the suspect at his home village recently.

ENB to help tertiary students have second chance

Submissions will go before the Provincial Executive Council for students, who missed out on places in the tertiary institutions due to limited places or no spaces, even after qualifying with an eligible GPA.

The ENB Provincial Government (ENBPG) is putting this issue as a priority and each of the five districts will be allocated K250,000 each towards this project to allow  the students to study programs at an agreed tertiary institution.

ENB Women take lead in league development

Female leading development officer from ENB Grace Michael says it is always a challenge to develop this male dominant sport in the province.

Michael has been developing the sport in schools throughout the province since the program’s inception in 2014 under the League Bilong Laif program run by NRL Australia in PNG.

The program works with schools in the four regions of PNG using rugby league as a tool to support education outcomes.

Church partnership boosted in East New Britain

This is the first of its kind for the province.

This was the initiative of East New Britain Governor and Kokopo MP Ereman ToBaining Jnr in line with the government's Public Private Partnership concept.

The group was formed under the watchful eyes of Rev August Waninara, who is also the church representative in the Kokopo district.

The council has organised three reconciliation services.

The first one was held last Sunday at Kabagap Primary School for zone 3 which includes Balanataman, Nanuk, Tinganalom, Ngatur, Ravat, Kunakunai and Turagunan.
